bethb's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am a full-fledged, card carrying member of the Church of the Rawk Now, i'm not an especially religious kinda gal. If the two respective religions of my parents were to arm wrestle, it would go a little something like this: ANNOUNCER: And in this corner, standing 56 years tall, in the shadow of the mom- PRESBYTERIANISM (is that even a word?) AANNNND in this corner, from the father's side of the family- it's THE QUAKER (yes...that's right, and no, that's not him on the oats box. my snappy come back at the end of this entry) SHAKE HANDS AND COME OUT FIGHTING at which point, the QUAKER would shake hands, politely say 'thank you' and walk away, because QUAKERS don't believe in violence or fighting. i think aggressive driving is still on the aution block... Most of my life, i've had to attend presbyterian services. however, now i'm old and i can think for myself, sometimes i go to meeting up in dupont circle...when i am not working and up early. unlike today... but i tell you all this because, i officially decided that yestesterday, i am a full-fledged-card-carrying-member of the Church of the Rock. Because at the plan show, if what i felt last night wasn't a quasi-religious experience, i dunno what is. The Alkaline Trio's van blew up in Chicago- so no AT for me. OHHHHHH, much heartbreaking ensued. But aerialist played, and this time it was just larry, and he played a vibraphone and he was brilliant, so it was ok. But when the dismemberment plan took the stage (oh- Tugboat annie played between the two bands....they were competent. kinda fun...i think they're pretty poised to inherit the crown of the GooGoo Dolls- that is to say good- but nuthin' new) Oh how the plan took the stage. It was PACKED. Kids just everywhere. Kids rocking out to the left, kids rocking out to the right. Oh, it was great. And the plan clan (the group of kids who are at every area plan show with a new schtick everytime) never fail to disappoint. And this time, they got all kinds of nekkid. (well...not all kinds...they did keep their shorts on) but it was still nice. except i've been seeing the really tall blonde cutie for a while, and he's had an X on his hand everytime, and i'm betting it's not because he's sXe. it's because he's sexxxy. not really. but dang is that one piece of cute underage-ness. letch alert. t.o.t.a.l.l.y. But much much much dancing ensued. and they did the chorus of 'back dat ass up' between the 3rd and 4th verses of 'ok joke's over'. so awesome. travis morrison is fascinating to watch. it's weird to feel such a sense of happpiness and pride for guys you don't really know, aside from a really short convo with Eric the bass player (who is one of the nicest people on the planet) and an email or two from travis himself. They go off to europe today to open for pearl jam. don't like pearl jam, but still- how awesome for the plan boys y'know? It couldn't have happened to a better or more deserved group of guys. Brought Sean and Jeffrey to the show. i think this was the second plan show i brought sean to, and it was jeffrey's first. I think he's pretty converted. i play them all the time at work anyhowsie...and then sean and jeffery and i went to the American City Diner on Connecticut Ave. and we got milkshakes (Jeffrey- strawberry, sean-cherry, me- vanilla- natch) *and* we saw more rockstars! i'm pretty sure we saw ian svenonious from NoU and the make*up. ***my 'snappy' comeback to "Oh you're quaker? is that your father on the oats box?' me: no, that's my mother. *snap* *snap* *snap* (hence the snappies) 19:25:06 - 2000-06-04 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
