bethb's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

by the way, your magazine sucks...

i'm having another 'i quit' day, so i have a copy of my student loan bill sitting on my desk.

210 dollars is a very good motivator.

i also realized that i'm pretty happy with the whole ft. reno business. i'm really looking forward to next summer, although i'm a little bit wary of people. case in point: i was invited to 4 parties in the span of 2 days. not because i'm a nice girl....which i am. mostly i think it was because i will mosty likely be doing the booking next year. which i've never done before. ever. but i mean, i've been working in professional theatre for 10+ years, going to rock shows for at least that long. i've run a radio station, worked as a DJ for 3 different stations, had a zine, volunteered at ft. reno for 2 years, and i really like the music that comes out of DC on the whole. i mean, yeah, there's some crap, but the good stuff is so achingly good that i don't have to go see lesbian boy jr. (RIP) just to get my live music fix.

fugazi was great last night. there was the obligatory monsoon beforehand, so i had to crawl down the road at 10 mph saying 'it's not raining' while my poor windshield wipers were just shoveling blankets of rain from my car. it stopped about ^:15, just like it did last year. although last year, there was a rainbow, and this girl tina pointed at the sky and said 'look! god's a fugazi fan'.

sho'nuff.

the rain really cooled stuff off too. i was actually chilly. there was one point early in the show where you could see the steam comming off of brendan and guy; and guy moved forward and literally left this Guy-shaped steam shadow on the stage for a second before the wind took it away.

i did not, however, enjoy playing 'bad cop' last night.

last year we let every kid in the world on stage to take a phototgraph, and this year given the ridiculous amounts of rain, we weren't letting many people up, and we limited it to friends/family/staff, because it was *really* slippery.

i had to keep these horrible adolescent (and some not so young) boys back. this one total asshole just slammed past me and laura went up to him and asked him to get off the stage and his response was something like 'i'm from rolling stone'.

i don't really give a fuck who you are. unless you want to be picking up soggy cigarette packs and mangled schlitz cans after the show, get the fuck off stage.

by the way, your magazine sucks...
