my epiphany

so, miss colleen scored herself two tickets to a "black tie" event thing last night and it could not have been bettter...

tim russert was the host of the evening (i *heart* meet the press) and bill cosby was the main speaker.

BILL COSBY!!!!!

not to mention, our table was actually fun and the guy to my right was sennator kennedy's (ted and his HUGE HEAD) assistant or something as was one of the girls at the table and the couple to our left were lawyers, nice lawyers, not that "nice" and "law" are mutually exclusive in this town, but it does happen, although in the heart of it, the two need to go hand in hand, but you know how a month ago, i decided i needed to have some kind of epiphany?

i think i had it.

the whole night was raising funds for the center city consortium which evidently is a catholic school thing, and the DC catholic schools produced both tim russert and bill cosby's wife, but all of a sudden it dawned on me, that because of the generosity of people and places in this town, we logistically don't have to raise any funds for fort reno for the next two years.

i can turn my attention to what i want....the universal art space which would have shows and (ideally) a gallery and (super amazingly ideally)studio spaces. and and and it would have saturday programs for kids, where it would put art in their own hands like silk screening and photo developing (although now, i guess you'd have to teach them photoshop) and maybe some ceramics; i mean, how hard would it be to rent a dozen or so electic wheels to show kids how to sculpt a hunk of clay?

i was amazingly fortunate growing up that my father was an elementry school art teacher and a potter so i never had any want for the mr. sketch scented markers or the school-issued water color paints because at the end of the year, my dad would bring home the slightly used extras.

also also, at least once a month, there would have to be a benefit show that would help out a neighborhood/city wide cause.

i really think that this can happen.

i do. if you want to join me, let me know.
