bethb's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hey! i know that song!

friends, i need your help. i want to know where other people stand on this issue- music you desperately love showing up in commercials.

now, yeah, this isn't new...but radio 4 selling mistubishi?

radio 4? seriously? that nice little brooklyn band that has the bass player i sometimes make fun of for looking like a lost extra from Newsies! ?

radio 4 whom i love love love and shoved infront of peoples faces whenever they asked me if i'd heard of "that great new band, the strokes?"

radio 4 whose pin i used to modestly pin a skirt slit gone awry at a lungfish show this past summer and ann j said it was "cute and punky"?

i know i should be happy for them, but i also knows that this is going to mean the presence of beefyheaded whitehats at their shows now. i guess it also means not sweating the van repair bill ever again, 'tho. and that's good.

but doesn't anyone else find it disorienting to, say, hear modest mouse in a van commercial? the cure used to sell photo-printers?

In the modest mouse case, the timing is just weird. or is it respectful that the band has since disolved, but hey! here's a way to keep them in your conscious *and* help keep that jacob fellow swathed in ill-fitting black t-shirts at the same time? And in the case of the cure, has there *ever* been a more painfull song for people aged 28-35? who hasn't thrown that on a mix tape in a desperate attempt to get someone back into your life.

as if that shit ever worked anyway.

are the cure doing anything right now? they just released a collection of b-sides and rarities from their Fiction label. i know because i saw an advert for it in the best buy sunday cicular! talk about disorientation. it was on the same page as the Helmet- GREATEST HITS. hey, who's feeling old? i sure am. helmet has a greatest hits?

do you enjoy it? are you worried that now you'll have to purchase your tickets in advance? (what?!?! the shins sold out two nights at the black cat DAYS (maybe almost a week) before the show happened? yep)or do you just not care. i'd really love to hear where other people stand on this.
