bethb's Diaryland Diary

-i don't have a theme here

you know what's embarrassing? gadgets. like the fact i use to be very very anti-gadget. but it started with the cell phone. it took everything but MCI literally coming into my house and gluing one into my hand and paper macheing it with dollar bills before i accepted one. then they could never make the voicemail work (please note, not *my*problem. the issue was on their end to the point i called and said "can i just send this back to you?" and they gave me a defeated sigh and a "yeah..."

never mind the fact that 6 months later they had given the number to someone else and still sent me the bill. i wonder why you tanked MCI.
now i'm pretty much only cell phone. and it's a cell phone that takes pictures and can record real noises that you can use for your ring so whenever i get a call jonathan richman starts shouting "1-2-3-4-5-6- road runner road runner". the only land line i have goes the the computer in my room. a computer that's far more sophisticted than i really need. it's cute 'tho. and i'd like to thank apple for not renovating the g4 ibook for at least a year and a half after i bought this one. i think it's safe to say i'm a mac convert. given how inordinately proud i was of myself when somehow i made the "dock" (i thought it was the tool bar) super tiny by accidently clicking on something and it took me two weeks to figure out how to set it back, but i figured it out.
i also have an ipod and a digital camera.
there was a point in my life, 5years ago, where the most expensive thing i owned wasmy stereo and that was about 175 bucks. but i needed the turn table. the second was a paid of red steel-toed 5 hole doc martens. they were about 90 i think when i got them from a hippie store in athens ohio.
i've been thinking a lot about athens ohio and grad school there and stuff. mostly the people i went to school with and places like the union bar and grill. and haffas records. and the amazing library. and the creepy guy who cut pictures of young boys out of the art books and stuffed them into his shoes and left with them. he also hit the zainesville library and i thing the miami u. library i think most of the univ. libraries in south east ohio.....he did thousands of dollars worth of dammage and whenever i hear the throwing muses song that has the line "my best friend knows this old guy who, who keeps a picture in his shoe" i think about him.
i think about the quarto section and the shelves of dusty thesis', and the bank of elevators, and the way you could actually steal books because their alarm system was easy to trick and i'm not proud but i have their copy of the story of o.
and the hocking river and the ridges and the encounter with the ghost i had at the ridges (no lie) and the place with the good muffins.
and the fact i don't miss athens ohio at all.
i miss indiana pennsylvania. i miss that place a lot. not enough to move back but i miss it.
maybe the fall makes me nostalgic for school. i miss learning maybe.
no, i definitely miss learning. i also miss having free time. but that ends tonight. tonight. tonight. tonight.
i just found out that maybe i don't have seats for me 'n kc tonight.
good thing the raven is nearby....
