a list of numbers, my granma's weapon of choice, and a letter to delaware's department of trans.
A List of Numbers to sum up the holiday: Number of miles driven: (aprox) 315 number of pies tasted:2 nights spent in weird antique bed:3 number of lanes on I-95 the Delaware Dept. of Transportation decided to shut down two days before thanksgiving (more on this later): 2 gin and tonics consumed: 1 wawa coffees consumed: 2 records purchased: 3 people seen that i've known since kindergarten: 2 people intentionally seen that i've known since kindergarten: 1 times my grandmother asked me what the connection was between university of maryland and turtles:3 thanksgiving was delightfully small and low key. just my family and my granma and a friend from her nursing home (gloria). her friend was really delightful actually. my granma keeps...it's not really slipping away. it's just changing. and not for the better. like a few visits ago my brother scott and i took her out to breakfast at goodnoe's dairy (RIP goodnoe's. that's another story) and she saw someone else who lived in "the village" and she went on and on and on about how she didn't like her because when they had a dance she would get up and shake "her big rear end" which was not really even all that big. and then there was something about my granma wanting to shoot her with a cross bow. a weapon of choice which puzzled both my brother and i as who the fuck even uses a cross bow anymore, really, and how would this 90 year old woman settle on that? weird. she is 91. or will be on christmas. she just isn't the same, interesting, adventerous woman i grew up with and it's really disheartening to see. she's just getting weird and mean. i was able to squeeze in some time with cristen which was good. i miss her. at lunch i think i saw a girl from our class- jessica m. we'll call her. i'm not sure, but i'm pretty sure. i almost never see people i went to school with out and about. which i'm mostly happy for. so the fact that three women who all graduated 15 years ago all ended up in this tiny argentinian restaurant that seats less than 30 people is funny. i think. and lastly: dear delaware d.o.t: what the crap were you thinking? seriously? reducing 95 to 1-2 lanes two days before thanksgiving? i hope whomever decided that was strung up by his nuts. that was really, record-breakingly stupid. i might actually mail them that....but i'll leave out the nuts part. i'm safely back in dc with leftovers in the fridge and a cat happy to see me and visions of the hold steady dancing in my head. i am on the list to see them tomorrow. i don't know if i have a +1 or not. i really need to start using +1's as a way to get dates i think. happy holiday weekend y'all.
