why so much mime and props?

well, i did my first "abs class" this morning. it wasn't a total nightmare. there was one thing that made me feel like a fool, but it was clear the other folk were old hat at this.
when we had to hold the big ball between our ankles and then lift it up and back and hand it off to our hands and then pass it back and forth between hands and feet, it got away from me once and smacked me in the face. so then i went back to just lifting it with my feet. i'll practice the pass off at home.
i didn't realize it would involve so many props. and mime.
we had to pretend we were pulling a rope while we did crunches.
why so much prop and mime ab guy?
