craftacular success!

i'm back. in one piece. i called in sick today.
new york was pretty great. not once did someone haggle with me or tell me my stuff was over priced or say "i like it and all but..."
it was so great. and the vendors were nice and the people were nice...and plentiful! i was between the lovely and sweet Dianna Rupp from the make everything workshop and a charming canadian bookbinder. he was very smiley and cute.

i did not see anyone famous other than amy sedaris and her weirdly big boobs signing books with her assistant walking behind her in some weird double-time movement thing.
i did see jimmy a. almost on cue, i was thinking 'i wonder if i'll see anyone i know'.
i had such a good time. i have to admit, it was a big ego-stroke which i kinda needed because the begining was rough and i was thinking 'this is the last show i'm doing' because no one bought anything for the first hour and then i was slammed.
and the DJ's were great. the first woman played a bunch of great, deep 60's soul and then some french ye-ye, the second one played some new wave stuff like josie cotton and some christmassy stuff.
the guy i wasn't so into, but he had a nice mix of new go team and m.i.a. although he played wang chung. that's not cool. that shit wasn't good 20 years ago, it's not good now.
i would totally do it again. and i would maybe even stay in seacaucus. it was really easy to get to and from the venue.
the only not-easy part was the craftacular organizers weren't there! i don't even know when they showed up, but we were told we could begin loading in at 8 and we were there, like, 7:30 when it turned 8:02 i walked into the venue and found someone from the building and i said 'look, we're cold and we were told we could begin loading in at 8 and it's 8:05" the guy let me in and the tables, while up, weren't marked, only a few people had maps so they got to their spots and we just directed people to their areas.

tina came over to me around 9:30 and said 'who did you talk to that said this was where we're supposed to be?" because i think the orgainzers were *still* not there by that point and we were starting to get worried maybe we were in the wrong room of the venue.
but, i dunno. it all worked out. i made a little money and it was super fun.

i do have one credit card charge that's not going through and that sucks, it's for 35. i really need to check ID's when i do credit card transactions.

last night at the black cat was wildly successful too. one guy bought three owls at once! that's 100! he paid with a credit card and i was like 'oh please let this go through'. so far, so good. he was very very sweet. and very very drunk.
but i guess he likes owls.
