for the proletariat

i just took a list at the 101 things in 1001 days list. I have until april 28 2008 to finish, so suffice it to say i'm probably not going to get a chance to pop off to paris.
I've only accomplished about 40% of the list. Some stuff just won't happen (i.e. the french stuff, writing that childrens book) some stuff i can dubiously knock off- kiss on the first date, make out with a guy at a bar, that's the same thing, right?
blah blah blah.
I did get a new job. that was a biggie.
it's so nice out today- and it's so hot in the office. i'm so not use to being warm at work. except for in the summer where temperatures would get about 90 degrees in the work room.
I should hang a photo of the thermometer on my desk so when i start grousing about the heat i can look at that and shut up.
Eric sent me an email with a note from the production, apparently someone in the cast of edward II thought it would be a good idea to have a race in the antique wheelchairs and snapped the back off of one. i was so infuriated and i don't even work there anymore! But i was the person who initially found the wheelchairs...and carried one of them down a tight staircase with my prop twin mary-kate. or was he ashley. i don't remember. but he and i carried this mammoth chair down a staircase avoiding the art on the wall, and some douchehammer snaps the back off. awesome.
one of the main motivators for leaving the shakespeare theatre company/harman center blah blah blah was just the grievous lack of respect for the artisans and production staff on the whole. First, the payscale for DC production artists is ridiculously low. Many theatres (not the Shakespeare Harman International Theatre) will hire a designer for a flat rate of, say, $450 for a show. But what they don't tell you is that you're also the charge artist, lead carpenter, assistant technical director (they give you a tech director if you're lucky)and often prop person. so basically by the time you've done a show, you're probably making .32 cents an hour. no joke. it sucks. at least at the SHIT they gave you benefits. But the fact that the production manager bailed before the two rep shows that were to open in the new building even opened....it's just another glarring example of how poorly the workers are treated.
