frat dudes...bleh.

last night i went to the black cat to see jay reatard play. i'll admit i've fallen out of attention with the new bands forming around now because they never seem to be any good and they never seem to have much follow-through or last long.
So when kc told me the shirks was andy g's new band i was pleased. i was even more pleased to see my favorite bartender al rocking out; between the beret and the dark glasses, he looked like he stepped off a freshly inked Peter Bagge illustration. the music was great too- kinda thee headcoats but much much more rocking.
the middle band was ultimately forgettable. except to some man who tucked his sweatshirt into his pleated pants and, as kc correctly put it, "looks like steve albini's older asshole brother".
jay reatard are so good live. i like their records, but i'd much rather see them live. if for no other reason than to watch the bass player's hair. actually, all three dudes pretty much have the best hair in rock & roll. I do kinda wonder would i like them as much if they didn't? i think probably...yes?
oh, and the whole shabang was done by 11:35.
there are a bunch of shows coming up that i want to see- we got tickets to islands in a few weeks which makes me insanely happy as their first record is just sheer joy, i'm definitely seeing the nightmarchers on the 10th, and i'm thinking about british sea power in about a week. the last time i saw british sea power it was less awesome than the first time which just had really good energy. plus they were *sooooo cute*. i thought they were going to be wizardy-looking old dudes, when infact they were delicious little english crumpets who wore scarves and sheep-head-hats and were generally adorable.
the second time was kinda frat-dude-ish, which....bleh.
