happy 4th

i usually hate the 4th of july, but i'm looking forward to today with parties and new friends. i'm making a rhubarb pie although i might have to add strawberries in with it since i couldn't find enough rhubarb to make 4 cups.
cooked the zucchini i grew for dinner last night, i spied another one yesterday the size of a large thumb.

went to national harbor yesterday. easy to get to from my house, very easy. although rain, tourists and terrifically tight street parking makes driving in that area a nightmare. i suppose if you parked in one of the 34 parking garages you would be ace to walk anywhere and everywhere. It's such a weirdly, aggressively fake area. Built up with convention centers and hotels to house the people visiting for their dance team championship finals or whatever they do.
boat shows, probably.
also, they have a lot of alfred paley sculpture of which i am not a fan. actually, i take that back- not that i am not a fan of alfred paley because that is true- i don't know of the ribbon-y eagles are his. i suspect they are, but i don't know in which case, there is only one paley sculpture. but it's huge. and if the eagles are his, then they have three.
i'm looking forward to being in the plush show which will also have a book published to go along with it. it meant i had to sneak it out of artomatic two days before i was allowed, but really, this is so much bigger than artomatic so i was willing to risk it.
ok, time to go make the pie!
tonight i will wear red and have fun. it will be good.
