brain bombs (not the swedish death metal band)

4 days 'til chicago. I'm so excited- the weather looks like it's going to be heavenly too.
the plush show last night was ok. it was crowded to one side of the gallery and there were somethings in the show that...well...made me wonder what could possibly have been turned away.
then there were some things that i had seen on line from a few artists that in person do not look that impressive. maybe people felt that way about mine too. who knows.

national harbor is still gross. it's like the fakiest fake town ever built. everything is just...off. Amanda and i debated whether or not it could ever be ok. she is no, i am 'maybe'. i am really curious to see how the place came together. There are three galleries out there, Art Whino (who moved entirely) Govinda (who threw up a second branch) and another one that i had never heard of- Amber Tree or something?
Govinda was in georgetown and has a long history of music-related photography. I've seen more than one glen e. friedman show out there I'm pretty sure. I don't see that happening at the National Harbor outpost. Maybe the NH branch will be more painting- there were some pretty farty works there this weekend.
There was some good people watching and we played "guess the relationship". then we mistakenly stayed because we heard there were going to be fireworks. there were. But they were far and probably over national's park.
Do you ever have weird flashbacks?
We grew up going to seaside park since we had a house there and twice a week, from July 4-labor day there were fireworks up in the heights. i just remembered that and remembered going to the little boardwalk pavillion house at the end of our street to watch them.

earlier this week i caught a scent of something that sent me back to 1998 at SART in Mars Hill and the weird scene shop and the ice cream parlor in the first floor of the weird residence hall we were all shuffled into at the end of the season because the place they had put us up for the summer was in fact promised to the returning football team. Actually, i think i got out of my contract 4 days early because of that. I got home in time to see seaside park one last time and the dismantling of the MTV beach house which was kind of in the heights and saw a palm reader and then moved to DC.
It's funny what memories your brain tucks away and brings them up at the strangest things.
