savory figs

I went to the zoo yesterday. It really is a very nice zoo. The newly re-designed Asia trail is pretty beautiful and they made it interactive which is nice. When I was little, the Philadelphia zoo sold these large, plastic keys that you could shove into holes at various animals stations and listen to the information about the animals. We were never allowed to get one of the big keys, so I appreciate the fact that the National Zoo doesn't do that. And the fact that it's free in general.
It was a nice way to spend a Thursday- school had (mostly) begun so while there were some kids there it wasn't super-over-kidulated.
Today i hung out with Tina. It's her kids first full day of school. i really adore her kids. We went to some thrift stores to look for crafty bastards supplies for her and I got rid of a few bags of junk. went to kimi and phil's for lunch and then we walked her dog in the parkk across the street from her apt. building. It really is a beautiful park. Fairly littered with used condoms (ok, 2 but at a park, you really don't want any)
i'm cleaning up downstairs for the return tomorrow and looking up recipes with figs. I pulled 5 off the tree outside and kim and dave are having a bbq tomorrow and i've been asked to make something "savory".
