the threat of organic chemistry
I went to a lecture last night on archiving your work if you're an artist/musician/performer as well as the importance of archival materials in your work of you are a visual artist and slightly about do you/don't you archive if you're performance artist/choreographer/ if the work was meant to be temporal. It was really interesting because I'm a giant nerd- learning about beautiful, intricately designed books that essentially self-destructed because of the combination of metal, paper and rubber used to create the book effectively welded itself shut. permanently. and the book is only 14 years old. can you imagine? this is the book if you're interested http://www.wsworkshop.org/php/details.php?ID=33 afterwards we went out to dinner with the woman who gave the talk because S&R know everyone...I picked her brain and am kind of dying to volunteer for her. Turns out I know her (as S says) guypal so i'm tempted to friend her on the bookface which is so nerdy but holy smokes, she's brilliant! and i'm not embarrassed to admit a severe nerd for art conservation. Today amidst work shenanigans I'm daydreaming about going back to school for art conservation which is not a new dream. THe threat of organic chemistry is pretty daunting however.
