bethb's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- candy apple news company my nails are brittle and dry if i cared more, perhaps i could do something, but i don't so i won't and they'll break. on wednesday i went shopping with my boss for props in ellicott city md. i *heart* ellicott city. it's very small and quaint and green and stone and reminds me very much of a town near where i grew up, called 'new hope' which is along the delaware river. it's a cool little town...use to be cooler when it was less touristy and more artsy, but for what it's worth, it's still pretty artsy. everyone in ellicott city is pretty and earth conscious and well read...well...maybe not, but i enjoy thinking like that. and there's antique place after antique place *annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd* (very very important here) a pretty rad comic book store. i would say on par with closet of comics in college park. except you can actually find stuff at this place. not quite as smashing as another planet in bethesda, but a decent one all the same. so we found some luggage for Camino, and i found a toy from my childhood. it's a fisher price 'happy apple', and let me just tell you...this thing is like aural crack. i think inside there's a little clapper, like a bell, and it bumps around on little keys which make the apple ever so gently resonate in your hands. and the sound isn't plinky-dink jingle sounds. it's a beautiful, lush, almost haunting sound. and it's tuned! that's what kills me! it's harmonious and it comes out of this big red apple. oh, it's the best. totally. i will write a symphony for my bass and work the happy apple into it. speaking of happy apples....does anyone remember the candy apple news company? it was a really early saturday or sunday thing....it was like a bunch of puppets and they put out this newspaper called the candy apple news, and then somehow, somewhere, there was this guy named chris who had allllll these laurel and hardy (or maybe it was abbot and costello?) movies and could communicate with a girl from outer space (named enid???? maybe) and, i think he was able to talk to her through like, a ham-radio or something? do you remember? if you do, email me 09:48:33 - 2000-05-12 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
