bethb's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- out to save the world. this entry might get a little preachy, 'cuz i'm all proud of myself for fixing the computer this morning.! yeah! me! i did it! ok, thank you. but seriously, there are these train tracks that run about 25 feet away from where i'm sitting now. i know the lure of the train tracks. i am familiar with their magic. their chugga-chugga siren's song.... but there are a lot of kids in this neighborhood, and i'm afraid of them hurting themselves. two nights ago, we were working late and there were a bunch of kids, not hurting anything, but still being a little...well....*there*....a lot. and they were just *there* with sticks and rocks and such. (the latter which got lobbed at our windows that someone had already lobbed rocks at a few years before so they've been replaced with a form of plexi-glass)but then last night, those same bunch of kids were putting glass bottles on the train tracks. Now, i'm no physicist, but even i would imagine train+glass bottle = some pretty cool explosion indeed. so i'm thinking....wouldn't it be great if there was a rec center in this area that could have a 'science night' or something, and instead of possibly hurting themselves or the cars of everyone who works in the warehouse area, that they can try shit out like that? with goggles? do you think they'd be into it? do you think kids would go to a rec center instead of hanging out by train tracks, hitting sticks on the ground? for real. there was this kid last night, who was whacking a stick on the ground like it was his job. not smiling. didn't appear to be having fun. just whack whack whack. let me know what you think....i grew up, pretty much on a farm, so i had barns to play in and trees to climb and streams to jump over....so i guess what i'm saying is, i'm pretty unfamiliar with neighborhoods and city kids and i dunno if they would be interested. if you think this is a good idea, let me know. for real. thanks gang beth b. 13:10:44 - 2000-10-18 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
