Hello Kitty Alliance

My head is spinning and not from the usual good way. And by 'usual good way', i mean of course, drugs.

so much to do, so little time, who said it was ok to put christmas now?

actually, it's allright i guess. i'm making stuff for my family, which means funny shaped pillows and photographs and stuff. my grandpa use to take me out and shoot pictures and then we'd go back to his darkroom and process them. sometimes, when i smell developing chemicals i think of his basement. there's a cheesey fact you probably didn't care to know about me, huh?

but yeah. he doesn't live there anymore, so no more photo-snappin with grandpa.

yesterday we met with ming to discuss Don Carlos. he's designing the set. i have such conflicting feelings about ming. part of me, the set designer part, was really excited to meet him the first time...before i ever had to work with him. i mean, come on- ming cho lee! (uh- he's the grandfather of american set design in the latter half of the 20th century) (i think jo melziner would cover the first half. i'm leaving boris aronson and joseph svobada out, because....well, because) but ming is well...i guess he's human. and 9 weeks late with his drawings. and he's at Arena Stage because molly smith (arena's artistic director) selected a season that's essentially 'arena's greatest hits'. they're doing (did) 'the great white hope' (which was originally produced in 1959 with James Earl Jones) and K2 (which ming won the tony award for best set design for, in...1982 maybe??) i had to drive him to arena from here yesterday and i asked him if it was exciting or weird to have to rehash something that's so famous. (his design really is)and he said it was a little weird, and they're discovering that no one can quite remember everything from the last time.

We also talked about Ursula Belden who was my design professor at Ohio University.

I really like the assistant that Ming has on this show. Yesterday when we were downstairs looking at a chaise lounge that he wants to remodel (or, actually, yank 6 feet out of, being as it's 14 feet long now, and take it down to 8') she came over to me and said 'i want to show you something' and pulled abck her sleeve and showed me her Hello Kitty watch too! so...Yay! At the very least, it'll make tech week fun. When we get over it, we can go down to Chinatown and scour the places for all things Kitty.

Bass lesson went ok last night. i think i am ready to play with people. anyone need a bass player?

xoxo
