what ever happened to the class of '65

did anybody see what happened to my weekend? I heard rumours about there being one, but i don't seem to have any proof.

on friday, i walked through china town to get lunch and rubbed a big brass lions nose for good luck and wished for 'an uncomplicated weekend'. i guess i got that. friday night i had such a sinus headache and fell asleep, saturday i worked/got a haircut (oh, not too bad. nice guy. a bit rough with the blowdryer and roundbrush. but the cut is nice. he kept saying 'movement' which was good, i guess. i left kinda helmet-headed but at least he didn't spray it, so i could shake it down when i left)

went to the flea market that happens every saturday and sunday outside of my apt. building. bought a book that fascinated me in high school called 'what ever happened to the class of '65'. beth b. factoid #683: for three years in high school i worked in a used book and record store (heaven? totally. i still go back there when i go to visit the parents. although the vinyl's gotten kinda....tired. i did pick up a copy of Avail's dixie there for three bucks.)

Anyway, i dunno what was so captivating about that book for me. whenever it would come in, i would thumb through the pictures and look at these kids, around my age in 1965 and compare them to pictures at their 10 year reunion. i bought it because i figure i'm almost at the point in my life where this book picked back up with them then in 1975. i graduated from high school 10 years ago this june.

although, i think the books kinda depressing. i'm reading about these kids and the stuff they went through and had to go through, like the vietnam war. i'm finding that i'm imposing my own measure of success on them. and i don't like that. and it's making me all mopey. and i don't like that either.

Last night was invited dress of Don Carlos. I am soooooo very much in love with the actor playing D.C. man, is he good. and enid grahm is amazing as always. and she is *nice*. it's never (ok, well...hardly....) the New York actors or even some of the bona-fide stars that are aggrivating (dixie carter was literally as sweet as pie. her husband Hal Holbrook had very specific requests about stuff, like those damn scales in Merchant of Venice, but otherwise he was cool) but the 'stars of DC' are usually the biggest pains in the heiner. they should be taking notes. after don carlos, jenny and randy and i went over to randy's and talked until about 2:30. randy told me that mike (randy's really smart and cute and smart and brilliant best friend from long ago) told randy about the taxi ride home with my friend JR being the jerkiest motherfucker in the universe and me repeatedly saying 'SHUT UP'. i was really truly mortified by JR. especially in front of mike. Randy said that when he was in high school and college, all of randy's female friends were gaga over mike. and...yeah. he is pretty neat. he's getting his Phd at berkely in something i didn't understand and his girlfriend is getting her Phd in Cornielle! Cornielle! can you imagine? she must be totally amazing too.

incidentally of nothing, japanese candy. ok. pocky? i love pocky. it's my tech week treat. but this week, i bought something called 'white rabbits' (the package was very hypnotic. as well it should be). they were a little um....chewey. kinda like when you heat up milk in a pan because you're gonna make some hot chocolate and you get that skin? ok, well make that skin like a thousand times chewier and wrap it in some rice paper.

but i still ate them.

i'm a sucker for packaging. no lie.

hey- shipping news are comming. rad. so's mary timony. i'd really like to go to that show, but that's not a show you should go to alone. that's like a 'come on over, we'll go thrifting for records and coffee mugs, stop by some places to look for shoes, eat ethiopian food and then go lift a few at the black cat and watch mary timony' kinda day.

sigh
