great birthday. great hot snakes. hey fratboys, stay out of my rock

i have the greatest. friends. ever.
i do i do i do.
this past week i've been in a serious funk but wow was yesterday good.
lunch and eastern marketing with colleen and a SPECTACULAR birthday dinner with deanna and andy. followed up with probably the best piece of cake i've ever had.
*and* an andrew wk sighting (um...the faux WK, not the real one) making it two sightings on two consecutive saturdays....

it's kind of a shame i had to strike tempest today. but it's good that show is done. the real bad thing was climbing up those stupid ramps to unscrew the candles. it seriously re-aggrivated my foot. god, i feel so gimpy.

but back to good: the hot snakes peel sessions..... john peel totally unburried rick froberg's vocals and they sound like they do when they're live which is to say mammoth. i think it was the last thing john peel recorded before he died a few months ago. but don't quote me on that.
also on the turntable: the new decemberists record. goooood. wasn't so much into the stuff before this. i don't know if this is the future of rock...(varried multi-instrument pretentious bands a la the arcade fire) but i like the decemberists.
i wonder if i would have liked the arcade fire more if i'd heard them before i saw them?
probably not.
i don't know what's happening now..if it's that oc show or what, but any small-ish band that comes along now is almost impossible to see.
bloc party, i'm talking to you. your record? great. but hearing that hillary duff was at your show..well, it's not your fault. you probably don't even know who she is and that's probably all for the better.
but man, if stars come to DC and the freakin' annoying meathead kids are there (um....EVERYONE who was at the last british sea power show) i'm giving up the rock and the roll.
