blueprint magazine. make-ups. and colleen

a few things:
first- colleen rules. we went to georgetown today for free comic book day. and she's the perfect accompaniment
second- i got a...i don't know how to describe. a normal person would say 'make over'.i guess i just got a 'make up' at MAC. it too, was awesome. it was a little weird having someone put makeup on your face...especially as they're jabbing you about the eyes with a wee bitty brush and a puddle of concealer that you're convinced you don't need, because pfffft...who cares about concealing when she does half your face and hands you the mirror and your jaw drops because goddamn isn't the right side of your face actually pretty for once and the left side looks tired.
also, that pimple on your chin? what pimple.
so i have to admit....i actually felt...almost pretty...and it didn't look like a lot of gunk which too was nice.
so i bought big chichi makeup, but it's my birthday in two weeks so F it. F it right in the G. H.
Now, in the 'we hate it when our friends become successful' column:
So yesterday i picked up Blueprint. The new MSLO mag. that's martha stewart living omnimedia. i read it was supposed to skew younger! fresher! livelier!
it doesn't.
first- the pull out 'which sofa is right for you' guide? didn't real simple do that not 4 months ago? some one did. very recently. second- instead of calling it 'blueprint' they should call it 'beigeprint'.
because it is the BLANDEST thing i've ever read.
I'm not saying i don't have issues with other home mags.
Real Simple is a little too aggressive about organization. it boarders on preachy.
Budget Living i actually really use to love, but they changed the font of the logo and now i can never find it in the newsstand. But budget living (at least circa a year and a half ago) hit the right notes of fun, accessible fashion. projects you could actually do. ingeneous and inexpensive solutions to stupid problems. like tv stands (speaking from experience).
Blueprint is probably trying the most to end up like BL but it's just not fun...
Ready Made i find a little to adamant about it's own craftiness when some of their stuff just stinks. i don't care if it's a turd you bought or a turd you made...it's still a turd. (light-brite table i'm looking at you)
the success part comes from me finishing the mag (oh-there is one ingeneous article about turning scarves into cute handbags) and flipping to the front to see who the editor and staff are.
i read the 'welcome' letter and think 'i wonder how old she is' and glance at her name and see it's a name i'm familar with because i went to highschool with a rebecc@ thuss and yep. it's her.
less curly hair. less eyeliner. definitely her.
it actually makes sense. i remember her from some art classes. her stuff was really really good. very careful, very precise. very kinda prissy. very much martha.
there's actually another girl that i think she was friends with. i am pretty sure her name was claudette. claudette kramer maybe? 15 years after high school and i can remember stuff claudette did. also careful, but also more inspired with a definite edge.
so i did what anyone starring down a former classmate, i googled her.
turns out she left blueprint two weeks before it hit newsstands.
i hope she's ok. i'm wondering if she could tell she had a turkey on her hands and didn't want to go down with it.
i'm sure they'll make it to a second issue, but i don't see this taking off.
