surreal day
Today was a super surreal day for many reasons- It started off with an over zealous (and gossipy) coworker warning us to not go outside because a homeless man who sometimes wears a bag on his head (which was news to me- i've never seen that) died going through a trash can and initially the neighbors thought it was a bear and called the police and they think he has a bomb stapped to him.
zuuh????? right?
so DCist finally posts a picture of it and i say 'that's not a homeless guy, that's one of ***local artists*** sculptures" and i pull up his web site and show my cowokers...but too late, because a fucking swat team has already sliced into said bear and torn it apart.
The whole thing is really endemic of why i hate DC.
Over anxious neighbor in rapidly gentrifying neighborhood? check. over reaction to a temporary art installation by an artist, who by the way, does this stuff all over the world, but here his stuff is cut down, dismantled and destroyed within hours of its installation? dub-diddley-dee check
seriously, this town has no sense of humor.

the second surreal thing is i interviewed for my job today. it's a little weird going through the interview process almost a year to the day you started and not like a review, but a full on "well, we can't promise anything but..." interview.
I've also applied for another job that would be super amazingly cool i think, and part time with benefits (!) which would be most ideal of all, but I doubt I'll hear from them.
now i have to write a bio for this show i'm in...i hate saying 'beth does this and that and lived here but moved there'. i mean, does anyone really give a crap? aside from the folks who read this...blah.
the good thing is they're done. the paintings. one looks not good but the other three are passable and i don't want to over work the face of it because it wown't come back.
