stuff and things

last week i ran a race. In front of people. with a hill. and i was not last. that was pretty cool.
I had to pee about 47 times after we arrived and waiting in line the last time, there was an older woman with her arm in a sling who confided to another woman that she was walking the entire race and i thought "sweet! i am beating her at least!"
And when she passed me on the trail i thought "fuck. i am slow"
But there were two others behind me so that's cool.
Carol ran the race too and finished and then came back to meet me about 3/4 of the way up the hill and encouraged me up which probably helped. I averaged 14.22/mile which is not fast. But a good 4 min faster/mile than what i'd been averaging.
W. ran along with me at the end which was embarrassing but sweet of him i guess.
The worst possible thing happened to me tho- well, maybe not the worst. I've read about people shitting themselves and *THAT* is where i draw the line/throw in the towel/never tell a soul (sorry paul westerberg)- my ipod which has been having battery issues died about 2.3 miles in. Do you know how much it sucks running without music when that's all you know? now it's just you and your feet and people passing you and the occasional person out for a jog in rock creek park but not in the race saying 'good job' while you can for once actually hear yourself and your belabored breathing and it sounds *bad*
i'm sort of worried maybe things with W are going too fast. and i'm trying to not jinx things but i can't help but feel kind of wary about stuff
