bethb's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cocktails and Boardgames- fun for lo-tech high-brows Ok, first, i would like to address the state of hot water in my apartment building. Being that there isn't any. Last weekend this happened as well. The hot water heater went ka-blam and flooded the basement thus we had no hot water all of saturday, but some maintenance guy turned it back on at 5:44 am sunday morning. (i only know that b/c i left the spigot on in the kitchen and woke up to it's sputtery luke-warmness) So yesterday, after a needlessly long day at work, i go home, tired, sweaty, kinda grumpy, i turn on the hot water to take a shower and nuthin'. well, not necessarily nuthin'...there is a cold trickle comming out of the faucet. So i call the 'emergency maintenance numbers', which are a joke...i think....two are out of service, and the third is just a paging service that noone ever returns)to no avail. Sunday morning, still no hot water. I am at work right now, at the old prop shop on Capitol Hill to take a shower. I had to clean the shower first because there are 2+ years of dust and sawdust in there, cobwebs, blah blah blah. I'm letting the soft scrub soak before i put my feet in. I want to look like a girl this evening. But seriously, this is the SECOND weekend in a row we've had faulty plumbing. this is getting ridiculous. It's a good thing i can't get a date to save my friggin' life here. One more mark on the reasons to move list i guess. i'm wondering if i could live in silver spring. i think i could. ultimately, i'd love to find a one BR up in mount pleasant or U street. i think it's getting too expensive on the hill...and while i'm on things that are expensive... The eastern market flea market vendors *have* to be kidding. This one guy was selling lunch boxes and board games for 25-35 bucks A PIECE! Now, i'm in search of a vintage copy of 'mystery date' as much as the next girl, but 30 dollars? i don't think so! Not to mention, he was selling a dukes of hazzard lunchbox with a crummy handle for 35 bucks. I just got a dukes thermos at a goodwill for 29 cents! I have been the queen of thrift stores lately. really good luck. Also, i found a copy of the Laverne and Shirley board game for 5 bucks on that Yahoo auction thing. I am collecting board games based on TV shows. so someday when i feel up to it, i'm going to reinstate my Cocktails and Boardgames Party tradition that i started in Ohio. Actually, i guess i started it in Massachusettes, technically. that's where i bought Materpiece for 50 cents and got everyone at the Monomoy Theatre addicted to that game. it's a lot of fun actually. fun for lo-tech high-brows. that's me. 19:45:02 - 2000-08-27 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
