top of the head faves of '06

i have to give up my schmancy haircut appointment tomorrow because meetings were scheduled for me. and then i looked at the calendar with cheddars (the boss) and realized i need to get the wreaths for the lobby done, like, now.
so now i'm actually looking forward to jury duty and the prospect of being let loose at 4 pm downtown since the american history museum is open 'til a delightful 7:30 pm.
overheard at work yesterday: "how does it hold up if you hit it with a sword?".
no lie. that's a legit concern in my job.
also- how great is the new m. ward record? prettty darn great.
my list of faves isn't adventerous this year, but for what it's worth, off the top of my head, this is what i really loved music-y this year:
islands- return to the sea, man man- six demon bag, portastatic- be still now, m. ward- post war, belle and sebastian- the life pursuit, the hold steady- the boys and girls in america, mission of burma- obliterati, mountain goats- get lonely,

other new stuff i enjoyed greatly: jenny lewis and the watson twins- rabbit fur coat, decemberists, the evens, the aquarium, and i think i might have enjoyed the new tv on the radio the few times i've heard it but can't bring myself to buy it.
